Historic links have been marked and new relationships forged during a visit to a leading Chinese institution by ÎÞÂ붯»’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Michael Lee represented Harper Adams at two significant events at China Agricultural University in Beijing, reinforcing a commitment to global collaboration in agricultural education and innovation between the two organisations.

At the WAFI World Agricultural University President Forum, Professor Lee was invited to act as moderator for a high-level roundtable discussion with global industry experts.

The panel examined the best ways to enhance international cooperation and technological advancement in agrifood systems – drawing on a diverse range of talent and experience from across the globe and sharing ideas, strategies and more.

The conference was the precursor for a keynote event the following day, marking China Agricultural University’s historic 120th anniversary celebrations.

Professor Lee was among the dignitaries, academic leaders, and partners from around the world invited to honour the University’s remarkable legacy and contributions to agricultural science and education.

Professor Lee said: “As strategic partners, ÎÞÂ붯» extends its heartfelt congratulations to CAU on its 120th anniversary. The milestone is a testament to the University’s enduring impact and leadership in its field.

“During my visit, I was struck by some of the resonances between our two institutions: China Agricultural University is marking 120 years of innovation in agriculture this year, and ÎÞÂ붯» will be marking our 125th anniversary next year.

“It was a great privilege to be invited both to attend the celebrations and to moderate the fascinating discussions at World Agricultural University President Forum.”

Professor Lee – who is an international expert on animal science - also engaged in productive discussions with colleagues from the CAU College of Animal Science and Technology while in Beijing.

The meeting explored opportunities in collaborative research, summer schools, and student exchange programmes.

Professor Lee added: “We were very pleased to welcome a delegation from China Agricultural University to Shropshire last year to talk about strengthening the links between our institutions, and this year’s meeting built on those discussions.

“There’s a keen interest for our institutions to collaborate more closely, and we’ve agreed we will work together to ensure we can draw the best from each University through these new partnerships.”
