    Associate Professor - Food Security and Agri-Food System Resilience

    Richard brings over 25 years of experience in land management, food security, agri-food system resilience, and human security. His work has taken him to complex and challenging environments, including Afghanistan, Angola, Nigeria, and Zambia, where he has led and contributed to policy, research, and livelihood programmes designed to strengthen resilience in vulnerable communities and food systems. Over the past 15 years, he has focused on stabilisation agriculture and the development of integrated livelihood approaches in conflict-affected and post-conflict settings, supporting long-term resilience, food security, economic recovery, and sustainable development.

    His current research and advisory work focuses on the resilience of agri-food systems in the face of climate change, geopolitical disruption, conflict, and environmental uncertainty. With a particular interest in the Black Sea region, Richard's teaching and research examine agricultural policy, global food and commodity markets, supply chain resilience, geopolitical risk, and the implications of climate change for food security. He advises UK government departments, commercial organisations, and NGOs on building resilience across food systems, rural communities, and critical supply chains, with expertise spanning the intersections of climate security, geopolitics, food security, and resilience. He is also a Visiting Research Associate at several UK and international universities.
